Baizhanghu Museum ofSound

The project begins with a single act: cutting into the edge of the lake.

Rather than placing an object by the water, the building opens the ground itself—allowing lake, sound, and architecture to become continuous. The museum is conceived not as a container of exhibits, but as a resonant cavity, where natural and artificial sounds are exchanged.

Visitors move along a constructed sequence—from the open landscape, to the roof, and down into the earth. A spiral gallery gradually introduces sound as knowledge, before dissolving into the main hall: a cavern carved into the exposed lakebed, where water, echo, and body perception converge.

Three small chambers open to the sky, isolating the individual from the collective resonance. Here, sound turns inward—becoming awareness of the self. The architecture is formed directly through its structure: a system of layered spirals that remains partially open, maintaining a constant dialogue with the landscape. The Sound Museum is not an object in nature, but a device that amplifies it—a space where the ground, water, and atmosphere resonate together.
